Did the organ void sign change Rose, or was she already fucked up? And who is the We in Thin Mountain and Little Evie and why is she singing? Didn’t really get those parts but they were all written so well I really didn’t mind. I just really didn’t know what was happening. Those ones were Organ Void, Escape to Thin Mountain, and the play. Was I missing something or were they supposed to be like a fucked up journey but you don’t really know what’s going on. I just really didn’t get what was happening in the last 3. The one thing I will say, and I think this is more-so a problem with me and not the stories. I don’t know what to describe it, Ligotti-esque? What do you guys think I should read next? I currently have The Croning but it sounds like I just need to read some Ligotti like ASAP since it feels I’m missing out. I guess you could say I’m new to this kind of subsection of horror lit. I’ve never read Ligotti or Barron, but I’m totally on board with this type of stuff now. I have never read these types of stories before. Delirious, panic inducing, insanely dark. Another standout was The Insuforium which was just insane. I loved how everything connected, I wasn’t expecting that and it makes me want to reread the whole collection. Fucking hopeless.Īnd the rest of the stories were great as well. When I read The Mindfulness of Horror Practice and Murmurs of a Voice Foreknown I was thinking, okay, okay this is pretty cool.Īnd then I read The Indoor Swamp and was absolutely hooked at just how absurd it was.Īfterwards is Origami Dreams which is probably one of my new favorite horror short stories of all time. I was enamored and disgusted and disturbed, and I felt like I was sick to my stomach at times.
